Edging, Blue Balls and how to deal with them
We all have experienced it, edging until your balls feel awful - here's how to avoid that feeling.
There is a huge parallel between so-called “Blue Balls” and porn addiction. Both have been experienced and reported by millions of people, yet both of them do not officially exist. But unlike porn addiction, there is absolutely no research about Blue Balls. This article therefore also is more like an opinion, but one shared by many experts.
The feeling of Blue Balls is not easy to describe. You can’t move, when you try to walk every step hurts badly, and touching your testicles feels like punching them. It can take hours to dissolve, sometimes even longer. But how do they develop?
Edging and the development of Blue Balls
Edging is defined as: “an orgasm being controlled (that is, delayed or prevented). It […] involves the maintenance of a high level of sexual arousal for an extended period without reaching climax.”
Reaching climax means orgasm. An experienced edger can feel aroused for hours without ejaculating. However, often Blue Balls are the result of it.
There is one muscle, called the cremaster muscle thought to be responsible for experiencing Blue Balls. The cremaster muscle connects to the psoas, one of the most important reproductive muscles, surrounds that spermatic cord the entire way down, and then wraps around each testicle. So, no orgasm, no sexual function without the cremaster muscle.
With every orgasm, the cremaster muscle gets contracted. And like any other muscle, after many contracts, such as the ones you experience when edging, it builds up tension. That is what makes your calves hurt after hiking for example. However, your cremaster muscle is not meant to be that active. It will harden more and more with every new contract, every new orgasm.
If you worked your glutes or your triceps every day your entire life, and you never once stretched them, and you never once massaged them, how tight do you think they would be? How much tension do you think they would have? Right. It seems like experiencing Blue Balls is nothing but heavy muscular tension. Here is how to deal with it.
Relieving Blue Balls
There is not just one way to make your Blue Balls go away, but massaging certainly is one of the best. Here is how to proceed when massaging it.
First, massage your testicles, and massage the in-between part. Again, remember that this muscle, doesn’t just surround the testicles, it’s all along the way. So ideally, we would like to be massaging all along the way. Search the web for an anatomical picture of the cremaster muscle and try to massage it all along the way.
This should release the muscular tension without having to get that prolactin hit you experience when ejaculating, which is to be avoided.
Some gentle stretching, again regularly, will be very helpful too.
How to avoid getting Blue Balls in 4-steps
Don’t edge.
It is unnatural, hurtful, and very time costly. Practice NoPMO to avoid getting triggered to edge. Know the downsides of edging and you will avoid it rationally.
Practice mindful arousal management.
Instead of allowing arousal to build up excessively without release, practice mindful management of your arousal levels. Engage in activities that help redirect or dissipate sexual energy, such as exercise, creative pursuits, or meditation. This can help prevent excessive buildup of tension in the genital area.
Incorporate regular genital self-care.
Implement a routine of gentle genital massage and stretching to promote relaxation and alleviate tension in the pelvic muscles, including the cremaster muscle. Regular self-massage can help maintain healthy blood flow and prevent discomfort associated with prolonged arousal.
Stay hydrated and maintain overall physical health.
Proper hydration and overall physical health can contribute to optimal blood circulation, which may help reduce the likelihood of blood pooling or discomfort in the genital area.
