Foods you need to avoid on NoFap
What you eat can determine if you relapse or not. Here is a NoPMO diet guide.
Nutrition is a very important, yet underestimated topic. Not only coming to NoFap, but for your overall health. Food influences us subtly. It can make us crave, feel happy, change our hormonal levels, arouse us, or calm one down. Put short, the things you eat, influence who you are, how you look like, and how you think.
Foods directly impacting hormonal levels
Certain foods can alter hormone levels, which usually are crucial for maintaining energy, motivation, and overall vitality. A diet high in refined sugars and unhealthy fats can lead to hormonal imbalances that leave us feeling sluggish, unmotivated, or overly emotional. A healthy nutrition can counter those horrendous effects, but more to that in a follow-up article.
High levels of estrogen feminize men. Their consumption can lead to low libido, tiredness, growing no beard, serious depression, erectile dysfunction, shrinking muscle mass, and pimples. Again, what we eat determines who we are! Like the proverb goes: You are what you eat. The same effects apply to artificial so-called phytoestrogens, artificial ingredients mimicking the female hormone estrogen. Unfortunately, estrogen- or phytoestrogen-high foods often hide in seemingly healthy products. So, be careful!
For instance, soy products contain phytoestrogens, which reduce testosterone levels, leading to decreased energy, motivation, and sex drive. Flaxseed, another source of phytoestrogens, can have similar effects. Even common ingredients like mint lower your testosterone levels, leading to reduced energy and laziness.
But it’s not always estrogen. Licorice contains a compound called glycyrrhizin that can reduce testosterone and increase estrogen levels, potentially making you feel tired and unmotivated resulting in laziness.
And what happens when you are lazy?
You lay down on your bed and watch some reels, then go over to the hub, ending up masturbating. Food can eventually determine if you relapse or not. That is why this topic is so important to me.
If you think that’s it, I am afraid to spoil you that the list goes on. Alcohol, especially when consumed excessively, can also disrupt the hormonal balance by increasing estrogen and decreasing testosterone, leading to weight gain ( also due to high calories), reduced motivation, and even diminished libido. Some dairy products, particularly those from cows treated with hormones, may contain estrogenic compounds that affect men's hormone levels, resulting in heavy skin problems, pimples and lower energy levels.
Don’t underestimate this one
Cortisol, the stress-hormone
The well-known “stress hormone”, can block the positive effects testosterone is supposed to have and, again, lead to you feeling unmotivated to pursue anything. Now, foods high in sugar spike cortisol levels, further leading to increased stress and reduced testosterone. Caffeine, while offering a quick energy boost, can also raise cortisol levels when consumed in excess, leading to burnout and reduced motivation. Additionally, diets high in processed foods, which often contain unhealthy fats, sugars, and additives, are linked to chronic inflammation and elevated cortisol levels, further contributing to feelings of sluggishness and decreased cognitive function.
Please, do your research into processed foods, as I want to talk about as many fields as possible and can not dive that deep. However, as always, simply e-mail me if you need advice or have questions!
Summary
Nutrition & diet significantly do influence your physical and mental health, especially in maintaining the discipline required for ever demanding practices like NoFap. Read this article again and take some notes. Then write down a list of foods you want to avoid. Mark these foods in red, and watch your current diet more closely. In the end it is up to you to eat your way to a new self! Until next week.
It is crazy how the things which seem harmless are harming us in so subtle ways. Definitely going to cut the things mentioned in this post from my diet.
