Lock in! How to think clear again.
Get your Focus back with this free 16-days Digital Detox. Try it!
Hey, you! Wake up.
When was the last time you did walk into a room and forgot what you wanted to do? Opened an app but could not remember why just a second later? Was it today, yesterday?
Give your brain a break. Seriously. Why brag about having no brain fog thanks to NoFap, when struck in a trance of distractions. No matter if you are already porn-free or still watch it; it is time for a Detox. But before I will talk you through the 4-Step Detox roadmap, internalize the following.
#0 The world goes on
Fear of missing out, or short FOMO, is an ever-growing problem you may have heard about already. Ironically enough, FOMO, meaning being online and available all day, leads to missing out on the good things in life. But can you even remember which TikToks you saw today? Which Instagram posts you liked?
You cannot. There is nothing to miss out on, I promise you this. The world goes on, with or without you.
If you truly understood that, you already mastered the basics of the Detox. At the end of it, you will start to think clearly again, be more happy as well as productive, stop forgetting things, and have more free time every day. Sounds great? Well, everything has a price. And even though this Detox is completely free, most people will be unable to pay the charged price.
Here are the four pillars my Program is build upon. But first, acknowledge this will take time. Aim for 16 days at first, as this is after when you should see the first measurable results. Like you may already know from quitting porn, it takes much longer to actually become independent of your addiction.
#1 No New News
Quit watching or reading the daily news entirely. Most things are utterly irrelevant for your personal life, so why waste so much time with them? I know people who watch the news twice a day, check what happened overnight right after waking up, and get push notifications hourly. Coincidentally, it is those people who are the most pessimistic about their and the world's future.
It is no miracle that someone who gets updated on conflicts hourly perceives the world as a place full of war and violence. Break that spiral of negative resonance! Someone who does not consume any media at all still knows about these skirmishes happening, yet he realizes that A: they are not affecting him and B: that if they were, he would find out. It is absolutely impossible to not be updated today anyway, so stop consuming the news.
#2 Quiet, please!
No music during Detox. See this as an experiment. There are no potential downsides, besides it being quiet on the way to work, the subway or while cooking. Exactly this time needs your brain to calm down, to shut itself to standby mode. You will catch yourself thinking about things you wanted to for quite some time but never had time. Learn to cope with silence, doing nothing and your thoughts.
#3 TikTok, TikTok, TikTok
As beating FOMO is an important part of this Detox, so is this step. Nothing induces as much of it upon us as Social Media does. Stop caring about other people and start caring about yourself. There will be another special article on Social Media, so I just leave it there.
Also, strictly limit phone usage to a maximum of two hours a day. Two hours is still a lot of time, so this is easily achievable without neglecting important phone calls or similar useful things phones were invented for originally.
#4 Move!
You are quite free here. Just head to the next football field, basketball hall or GYM and get active. Touch some grass daily. Even if it is cold or rainy, go outside for at least 15 minutes a day. Walk to school instead of using the bus, or go grocery shopping by bike. What I like to do recently is stroll through the empty streets in the late evening. Fresh air is something your brain needs, especially if you need to high perform.
Implement these four steps, and you are going to see positive results. There is nothing to lose, but peace of mind to gain. Psychologically speaking, challenging tasks, as this Detox is, are more likely to be completed if you are not fighting alone.
So, grab a friend, tell him about this crazy idea, and see who has the stronger willpower. Besides this Detox then being more fun, you also significantly reduce your FOMO, as your homie will be “missing out” as well!
These are good advices everybody should have in mind
Great post 👍
