You need these Apps for quitting Porn
In my journey away from porn, I tried every possible app supposed to make this process easier. Here are the best ones.
Quitting masturbation and porn is hard. Depending on your degree of addiction, it can even feel impossible. Mobile apps oftentimes are Janus faced coming to breaking porn addiction. In a few cases they can be the portal to the addiction itself, like Reddit or discord. Both however could also be used to access self-help communities. What I found to be true for me was that I spend most of my time on Reddit in communities seeking help, yet a single urge was enough to make me relapse as the world of porn was just two clicks away. And here is the first and most important rule coming to quitting online porn.
Accessing porn must be impossible, so even though you may feel like it, you can not consume it.
Now, there are applications restricting easy access to porn, thereby helping one to quit. We will be there in a second. But before that, here are some apps you should delete or disable immediately. Here is how to identify them.
What you can do right now however is to start analyzing what leads to your relapse. Read the article about identifying triggers again, as it offers a great starting point. If you have done that, you should know where and when you get triggered. Delete any app which triggers you (for me: Reddit). Even though this may seem extreme at first, remember why you are here and why you want to quit. If quitting now is more important to you, deleting them is the right choice. Be brutally honest with yourself.
Well, what to do with internet access? I deleted any internet browser for a few weeks when my addiction was at its peak, but honestly there are many different, better ways. Here are my favorites. It is safe to say that without the following blockers, my porn habit would not have been destroyed. And there is no shame in that.
The two most important apps:
#1 BlockerHero
“Never in my life, I am going to consume porn again”, you say to yourself. A few days later, the urges get too strong and porn takes over again. You relapse. If you want to break free from this devilish cycle, BlockerHero is what you need. Just select the websites you want to block, and there is no way for you to access that site, no matter how heavy the urges. There is also an option for setting an accountability partner, without whom you can not remove your blockade. The addictive YouTube shorts, reels and more are also blockable. This app saved me.
#2 StayFree
StayFree is perfect for anyone seeking to reduce screen time, while also quitting porn addiction. You can set timers, time frames or daily intervals for any app or website. Now, this app won’t work for severe addicts just starting out, as it relies on self-control. However, by setting multiple blockers on other, similar apps like WallHabit or Appblock it will take time and frustration to get rid of them one by one. WallHabit even blocks porn you view in your gallery, so there is no way to peek. Most of the time, my urges were gone by the time I dismantled the blockers, or my phone shut itself off for some minutes (another StayFree function) in which I came to my senses.
This is also what I recommend. You are going to get urges. You want to access porn sometime. Deinstalling or resetting one blocker is easy. Deinstalling or resetting multiple blockers is not. Install as many blockers as you need.
There are unlimited apps like that out there. I have more than four, and had even more when I still was addicted. Explore what suits you best.
The moment when you realize you need those blockers, it really feels good
great post! especially for beginners who are struggling with peeking and cannot control!
